Welcome
Welcome to myTravco.com. This is the
site for Travco owners and enthusiasts to share travel stories, photographs,
repair ideas, parts purchasing, and so forth. These fabulous RV's were produced
between 1965 and 1979. Motorhome magazine ranked Travco as one the the
best motor homes ever made. Using trend-setting, innovative production
designs, the aged Travco stands today toe-to-toe with the top RV's around.
About
Travco took off as a leader in innovative
motor home design. Travco
motor homes incorporated ideas that would outlast a model or year or
manufacturer. Some of these conceptual lessons would continue on, long
after the Travco company, into motor homes of the future.
Who We Are

myTravco.com is made up of Travco RV
owners, or those who just think she looks too cool, who form a family of
information and resources. Together, we share our experiences with our
Travco. These include travel stories, maintenance nightmares, glitches
caused by gremlins, and so forth. The common person would think
maintaining a 25+ year old RV is futile, but that's because they just don't get
it. The Travco RV is about that need to deny the establishment, to dare to
be different, and revel in the grace and beauty of these sleek lines and
graceful curves while holding sheer admiration for these motor homes of
yesteryear... still serving loads of useful miles, smiles, and stories down the
road.

History
In the early 1960's, Ray Frank began the
development of fiberglass body motor homes. These huge 27' fiberglass body molds
revolutionized the RV industry. In 1963, Mr. Frank's company was sold to
two Detroit businessmen, Peter Fink and Ken Robertson. It
was renamed to Travco in 1965 to avoid conflicts with other coach makers, as
Dodge would later, in 1968, introduce two more chassis dedicated to the motor
home market.
By 1967, after the original Frank Motor Home
Corporation became Travco Division of PRF Industries. Travco
Corporation continued to produce high quality motor homes until 1979, when the
federal government loaned Chrysler a huge amount of money. As part
of the company's financial restructuring, the government forced Chrysler out of
the motor home chassis business. This ended production of chassis for the
Travco. With surmounting financial woes, the Travco line was
discontinued. Assets of Travco Corporation were sold at auction. The
"right to produce" was bought by Foretravel. Foretravel continues to produce motor
homes under their name. Ultimately, consumers who cherished the
non-conformist look and quality craftsmanship of the Travco motor home created a
unique market demand for the classic RV's of yesteryear. The mighty Travco
is still heralded as one of the finest motor homes ever produced.
