| An electric water heater, for an RV or home, cannot heat
without water. One of the primary reasons the heater doesn't work is
a bad heating element. It primarily goes out because it was heating
an empty tank.
To check the heater, use a volt meter to test the contact points of the
input power. This is 120 V so use appropriate caution.
If power not present, check the circuit breaker. If power is
present, test the power to the heating element.
If you are receiving power to the positive and negative points on the
heating element, yet the unit won't heat water, your element is
bad.
Replacement is fairly simply. The element cause under $20.
You may, however, need a special tool to remove the element. Due to
tank case construction, only a large socket or pipe wrench will resolve
the problem. Both the element removal tool and a replacement element
are available at True Value. |
